Self portrait, running from camera

Hi, I'm Glynnis.

I'm currently an undergraduate student at the University of Alabama. To be quite honest, I can tell you what I'm studying, but I have no idea how to answer the question, "What's your major?" I'm enrolled in a program called New College, "an interdisciplinary liberal arts program where students craft individualized courses of study consistent with their interests, aptitude, temperament, and skills." Even though the answer "New College" satisfies the question of my major while on campus, saying so to my grandparents or my parents' colleagues inspires raised eyebrows and concern. I tend to subscribe to the philosophy that everything works itself out, and though I am decisive, I have trouble knowing what I want. Despite ambition and hard work, to some, this "lack or direction" is worrisome. Hi, Mom and Dad.

I earned my high school diploma in 2006 from the Alabama School of Fine Arts, a public magnet school in Birmingham, Alabama, with special programs for seventh to twevlth graders in visual art, music, math/science, dance, theatre, and creative writing. There, I studied creative writing for five years, submitting prose and poetry for critique and publication on a regular basis. It is hard to convey how these high school years have shaped me, or how nostalgic I am for the creativity and excitement I experienced during that time. Having spent my entire life until graduation in Birmingham (living in the same house, even) the concept of home and place are things I constantly examine.

Committed to geekery at an early age, I've been publishing on the web since 1999. 2005 marked the beginning of my love of photography with the purchase of a digital SLR. Since then, I've been creating work, collecting cameras, and working in a dark room on campus. I especially love to travel and document my trips.
