Pause
Posted Thursday, June 03, 2004 @ 12:01 AM

It's funny how your life can just sort of go on pause -- like someone in control is taking a bathroom break, only they've forgotten that they were watching in the first place and began to do something else.

And you're just sort of there, helpless, looking around at everything that's frozen -- looking at the faces of people you know, arrested midsentence, their mouths open and cold. And it's not even that you're thinking any differently about them, or doing any evaluating while you're all standing there. Everything just kind of stops.

And there's nothing you can really do about it. There's all these other things you could be doing -- that correspondence course, that stack of overdue library books, that list of friends you haven't seen recently that keeps getting longer and longer as the days pass.

But all you can do is kind of stand there with everyone else, hoping for the dormancy to pass -- hoping to finish that last sentence. Hoping to remember what it was even about.

And until then, it's all you can do to open your eyes in the morning, to make yourself breakfast when you haven't been hungry for days.

I wish I could appear at your door and make you smile. I know the feeling of wishing I could stay in bed and wondering what the point of getting up is.

I miss you and am looking up plane ticket prices right now.
